MY LIFE IN TROMSO NORWAY

For many years I lived, worked, and attended school in a small town far above the Arctic Circle in Northern Norway.  Life was very extreme there, and it didn't help that I did not own a vehicle and had to either walk or take the bus everywhere.  Often it would snow one to two meters overnight and you would have to climb out of a window to exit our apartment.  The one thing that kept me going was the young man that had invited me there and whom I eventually married.  If it weren't for him, I would never have survived the 3 months of total darkness and the cold winds with temperatures dipping to -40/-50 celcius.  Click here to view a web site with useful information about Tromso Norway.

When I arrived in Norway, I was able to speak some Swedish, which is somewhat similar to Norwegian (mostly  I spoke the bad words my uncle's and grandfather taught me- they were fisherman so you can imagine my colorful language).   In the beginning I had to attend night school at the local high school to learn how to speak Norwegian and not spice it up with my fancy Swedish adjectives.  Later I got accepted into a college program that consisted of foreigners, most of which were asylum seekers.

One of my favorite places to visit while living in Norway was the small town Bardufoss, which is located beside the Norwegian Air Force military base.  The town boasted some of the best pizza in the world (and this is coming from someone who has tried pizza everywhere, including Italy).  Click here for a link to Jokern Pizza, which is my favorite place to eat pizza.  If you are ever there I suggest you try both Jokern Special number 1 and number 9.

Here are some photos of beautiful spots throughout Bardufoss and Tromso Norway.

Hopefully one day I can find myself looking up at these beautiful lights while eating a piece of Jokern Pizza.

Best wishes and travels to you!
